Every person has to choose whether or not to believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God (the Father). Our eternal life depends on this. There are many forces in the world that focus on robbing from us the great gift of eternal life that God the Father wishes us to seek through His Son Jesus. These forces in themselves do not have power to take away our eternal life, but instead lure us away from the truth by casting doubts about Christ. Some say He was just a prophet. Some say He was simply a good man. Some say that He was God but not man... The Church creed tells us that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary and was crucified for our sins, rising again on the third day, and Who will come again to judge the living and the dead. What are we to believe? Can we really believe what the Church teaches? How do we know that the Church is teaching the truth? For most of us, there are no easy answers to these questions, and the answers only begin to come once we begin a sincere search for the truth.
In our day, much of the misperception about the Church stems from the fact that we, the human race, have grown so far from God. He practically does not exist anymore in many of our hearts despite the fact that He has gone to infinite lengths to reveal Himself to us. It is this distance between us and God that causes the teachings of the Church to appear to us as far-fetched and/or unappealing. The word "God" often seems to refer to some nebulous force in the universe that unites humanity in some way, rather than to God as our Creator and our Protector, Who is present everywhere and fills all things, and most of all as our Father, our Abba (Hebrew for Daddy). God Himself became man in the person of Christ Who died on the cross for us in order to re-unite us to Himself. If we knew someone who had saved our life by rescuing us from a fire, would we not keep the memory of this person forever and continually in the forefront of our mind, and even more so if that person had themself died in the fire in order to save us? Let us not take our Lord Jesus Christ's death for granted. Even though we were not there two thousand years ago to physically witness His death on the Cross, let us magnify this centerpiece of history in our hearts and our minds. Let us not be distracted or deceived by the many voices that surround us that attempt to diminish and even extinguish the reality of the Crucifiction and Resurrection of Jesus Christ for our salvation. If there are any doubts in our hearts about these events, let us pray to God to help us to understand clearly; let us go and seek answers to our questions in order to remove our doubts. Let us go and learn fervently about the history of the church; let us read how the traditions of the church were instituted by Christ and the Apostles, and how they have been faithfully passed down and kept intact to this very day in spite of the apparent confusion in the world today.
The above is sung repeatedly during the services beginning with the midnight Resurrection Service at Pascha (known in the West as Easter) up until Pentecost. Pascha is the greek word for "Passover".
